
The African Leadership Excellence Academy (AFLEX) and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP), National University of Singapore have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on various programs aimed at enhancing leadership development across Africa.
The MoU was signed by Mr. Zadig Abreha, President of AFLEX and Professor Danny Quah, Dean and Li Ka Shing Professor in Economics at LKYSPP.
This partnership signifies a major step forward in addressing leadership and governance challenges on the African continent, with a particular focus on Ethiopia. The collaboration will encompass several key areas, including:
- Customized Leadership Development Programs: The two institutions will jointly establish tailored leadership development and capacity building programs for executives across public, private, and civil organizations in Ethiopia and the African continent. The primary thematic areas will include:
- Leadership development in the public sector
- Empowering women leaders and emerging leaders
- Governance, policy development, and public administration
- Capacity Building for AFLEX Staff: The partnership aims to enhance the skills of AFLEX staff, trainers, facilitators, and researchers, equipping them with research methodologies and pedagogical approaches essential for nurturing competent leaders.
- Facilitated Enrollment in Executive Education: The MoU paves the way for increased enrollment opportunities for African participants in LKYSPP’s Executive Education open enrollment programs, as well as access to the school’s Master’s programs, contingent upon admission criteria, application, and review process.
- Knowledge Exchange and Collaborative Research: Both parties will actively facilitate discussions and the exchange of expertise in leadership development and policy research, through the sharing of relevant academic articles and publications. This collaboration will also extend to joint research activities that are of interest to both parties, upon mutual agreement.
Zadig Abreha remarked, “This collaboration is a cornerstone in our mission to foster excellence in leadership across the African continent.
We believe that by leveraging the expertise of LKYSPP, we can empower a new generation of leaders capable of driving positive change in their communities.”
The signing of this MoU marks the beginning of a strategic partnership expected to yield significant impacts on leadership education and development in Africa.
