AFLEX, IGAD Agree to Foster Collaboration in Capacity-building Initiatives

Addis Ababa December 25/2024 (AFLEX) African Leadership Excellence Academy (AFLEX) and Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) today to work jointly on areas of fostering collaboration among member states mainly in leadership trainings and capacity building initiatives.

The MoU was signed between AFLEX President Zadig Abreha and IGAD Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu in a virtual ceremony.

The MoU has been designed to foster collaboration in leadership training and capacity-building initiatives specifically tailored to address the unique challenges faced by IGAD member countries, it was learnt.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, AFLEX President Zadig Abreha said the today’s agreement is anticipated to play a vital role in promoting good governance, conflict resolution, and sustainable development in the region.

He underlined that the partnership is critical in equipping both current and future leaders with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate the complexities of governance in the Horn of Africa, ultimately fostering exceptional leadership for people in the region.

In this context, Ethiopia, a country that has significantly contributed to Africa’s independence and growth, will continue to play a vital role in advancing the socio-economic and political development of the region, he pointed out.

IGAD’s Head of Mission to Ethiopia, Abebaw Bihonegn, reiterated the importance of the collaboration in enhancing leadership excellence that would contribute to a more stable and prosperous future for member states.

He added that the agreement outlined important areas of cooperation, such as joint training programs and capacity building initiatives focused on leadership excellence and governance, among other areas of common interests in the region.

The partnership agreement, which will be effective as of January, 2025, represents a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership and governance in the Horn of Africa, with the potential to profoundly influence the region’s peace and development.
