Sululta – March 1, 2025 (AFLEX) – Mr. Zadig Abrha, President of AFLEX, highlighted the critical role of institutions in the foundation of a nation’s civilization during a leadership development training for the Ethiopian Payment Roads Enterprise.
Mr. Zadig stated that strong, cross-cutting institutions are essential for preserving civilization. He emphasized that institutions serve as the cornerstone of a nation, allowing it to remember its past, work in the present, and dream the future.
He argued that a country’s development and prosperity should not solely be measured by nuclear power, mineral wealth, or high per capita income, but rather by the strength of its institutions.
“Institution building is like bridge building,” Mr. Zadig explained. “It requires careful planning and execution. A well-constructed bridge endures through time, just as a solid institution does.” He urged leaders to build institutions that transcend religion, gender, ethnicity, and color, stressing that these factors should not impede the establishment of effective leadership.
Drawing a comparison between institutional leaders and stonemasons, Mr. Zadig noted that both require strategic patience. He asserted that leaders must be diligent and patient, much like a stonemason meticulously carving stone.
The training session also underlined the significant influence of leaders in institution building. Mr. Zadig remarked, “Institutions and civilization are two sides of the same coin. Institutions guard civilization and keep it alive. Building an institution is a long-term endeavor, and anyone involved should see themselves as a carpenter of the nation.”
The leadership development training provided by AFLEX to the Ethiopian Payment Roads Enterprise continues, emphasizing the importance of institutional strength in fostering a prosperous society.
