
December 19th ADDIS ABABA, the Public Leadership for Gender Equality (PL4GE) initiative was officially launched at the Skylight Hotel in Addis Ababa. This important event was a collaborative effort involving the African Leadership Excellence Academy (AFLEX), the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs (MoWSA), and the Global Center for Gender Equality. The primary goal of the program is to empower women and significantly increase their representation in public leadership roles through comprehensive training and mentorship.
AFLEX President Mr. Zadig Abreha opened the event, highlighting the critical role of women’s participation in leadership for the advancement of national progress.
He reiterated AFLEXβs commitment to sustaining the PL4GE program until gender equality is firmly established in Ethiopia.
Alex Munive, Director of the Global Center for Gender Equality, spoke about the program’s inclusive approach, emphasizing its relevance to the specific context of Ethiopia. Following the opening remarks, a panel discussion was held, where panelists delved into the vital role of leaders in fostering gender equality, the importance of partnerships in achieving these objectives, and shared insights from their experiences with the PL4GE training.
Dr. Tifsehit Solomon from MoWSA concluded the event by affirming the significant impact of PL4GE on advancing gender equality in public leadership roles. She acknowledged the crucial contributions of the trainees, emphasizing their role in driving progress toward gender equality.
The launch of PL4GE marks a significant step forward in empowering women in Ethiopia and promoting inclusive leadership across the nation.
